St Hugh’s is very pleased to announce that the Mary Renault 2020 essay competition is now open for submissions. The deadline for essay submissions is 5pm on Friday 24th July 2020. The Mary Renault Prize is a Classical Reception essay prize for school or college sixth form pupils, awarded by the Principal and Fellows of St Hugh’s College, and funded by the royalties from Mary Renault’s.
Instructions for entrants and essay questions are provided for the Kelvin, Thomas Campion and Vellacott prizes on the lefthand side as attachments. There is also an FAQ page for entrants and their teachers, as well as a guide for teachers on how to use our online system to run an internal competition within school and how to approve or modify essays.
Several Cambridge colleges run essay competitions related to Classics, for students in year 12. Whether you are planning to apply to Cambridge or not, we encourage you to get involved. A student of Queens College, Nnachi Grace has emerged the winner of this year’s LCCI 2019 Secondary School essay competition. With over 150 entries received from public and private schools, Nnachi Grace, a senior secondary school student from Queen’s College, Yaba clinched the top position in a keenly contested competition.

The Philosophy Essay Prize is open to Year 12 or Lower 6th students. The aim of the Prize is to encourage able sixth formers to pursue their interest in Philosophy, with the hope that they will be encouraged to read this or related subjects at University. Essay Prize for Foundation Doctors 2020 The College is now accepting applications to the 2020 Essay Prize for Foundation Doctors. The competition is open to all those currently in a UK Foundation Programme (F1, F2) at the time of submission, as well as those who have completed the UK Foundation Programme but have not yet achieved an OST1 post.
